"The dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. work is the key to success, and hard work can help you accomplish anything." Vince Lombardi
I started my career as a runner on the floor of the Chicago Options Exchange. As I continued my studies, I progressed to running an Institutional Trade Desk on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange for Smith Barney. While working for Smith Barney there was one thing that I always felt I was missing, my degree. I decided to go back to college full-time while working full-time for Smith Barney. Those years were very hard but taught me the importance of never giving up, to strive to be the best no matter what it takes.
After I graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a degree in Advertising/Marketing Design, I went to work for Eisman, John and Laws Ad Agency in Chicago. Since I had no real-world design experience, I took a position as assistant Media Planner/Buyer to get my feet in the door. I knew that if I worked hard and mastered my craft I could eventually use this knowledge to get me closer to the creative side of the business.
A year later I applied for a Media Specialist position at the Ad Agency - Brown Marketing Communications in Chicago. I worked on the Devry/Keller School of Management account as well as others. This position allowed me to get my feet wet as a designer and I knew that was my real passion, I loved to design.
Almost 4 years later all of my past experience helped me land a position as a web designer for Terra Nova Trading, LLC. I now was a designer that also handled the companies advertising, my dream was becoming a reality. This is where I really developed as a designer. 2 years after starting, the web designs I created helped us win "Best Online Broker" award from Barron's magazine in 2002. Terra Nova Trading beat out the likes of Ameritrade and e-Trade, it was a great accomplishment. For the next 4 years we won that award, for a total of 5 consecutive years – 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006.
At the end of 2006 I moved on, taking a position as a web designer for Patterson Medical, a Nasdaq 100 company. As the only web designer for Patterson Medical, my past experience and dedication to my craft has helped me to learn more, to continue my studies and work to be the best I can be. This hard work again paid off, I was promoted to Web Art Director.
